Freeroll definition

Freeroll at Internet poker sites should not be confused with their counterpart: play money tournaments. A Freeroll is different from play-money poker tournaments in two respects. Play money poker tournaments usually require the ‘payment’ of play money and the tournament winnings are play money. Freeroll tournaments can be genuinely free, may require a payment of points (from a point system developed by the site), or on some occasions require a deposit of funds into the player’s account. The winnings are either real money, points, merchandise, entry tickets, or invitations to other poker tournaments.

It is not unusual to pay to play in a feeder poker tournament that gives the winners a free entry to another tournament but it is arguable whether these second level tournaments can be called a ‘freeroll’, since they require a buy-in, though smaller than the major tournament buy in. More often, such poker tournaments are called ‘satellites’. This format is typical of freeroll poker tournaments both on the Internet and in the ‘brick and mortar’ sites.

Many people have won significant sums of money by seeking out the poker houses that have the best and most frequent freeroll offers. Carbon Poker is currently one of the best online poker sites offering a generous, ongoing $500 freeroll. Take advantage of it before it’s too late. Join Carbon Poker today!
